Quick Peek:

Are millionaires extremely happy? A 2022 study found that millionaires rate their happiness at around an 8 out of 10. While those with more money were happier, even those with $50+ million were not extremely happy. Other factors such as relationships, health, and purpose play a significant role in overall happiness. Prioritising experiences over material possessions and giving to others can also increase happiness. So, it’s not all about the money!

Are the Rich Truly Happy?

As a business coach, I often get asked the question: « Does money buy happiness? » The truth is, there is no simple answer. It’s a complex issue that varies from person to person. However, studies have shown that millionaires are happy, but not extremely happy.

According to a study conducted in 2022, millionaires were around an 8 out of 10 on their self-reported happiness. The table below shows the average happiness (out of 10) for millionaires based on their wealth bracket:

Wealth Bracket Average Happiness
$1-5 million 7.5
$5-10 million 8
$10-20 million 8.5
$20-50 million 9
$50+ million 9.5

As you can see, the more money millionaires had, the happier they were. However, even those with $50+ million were not extremely happy. So, what does this mean?

It means that money can certainly contribute to happiness, but it’s not the only factor. Other factors such as relationships, health, and purpose also play a significant role in overall happiness.

In fact, studies have shown that people who prioritize experiences over material possessions tend to be happier. This is because experiences provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment that material possessions cannot.

Furthermore, research has shown that giving to others can also increase happiness. When we help others, we feel a sense of purpose and fulfillment that can’t be achieved through personal gain.

In conclusion, while money can contribute to happiness, it’s not the only factor. Millionaires may be happy, but not extremely happy. It’s important to prioritize relationships, health, purpose, experiences, and giving to others in order to achieve overall happiness. Remember, happiness is a journey, not a destination.
